L.246, SEIU v. City, 16 OCB 54 (BOC 1975)[Decision No. 54-75 (Cert.)] OFFICE OF COLLECTIVE BARGAINING BOARD OF CERTIFICATION --------------------------------- x In the Matter of NEW YORK CITY LOCAL 246, S.E.I.U., AFL-CIO DECISION NO. 54-75 -and-DOCKET NO. RU-519-75 THE CITY OF NEW YORK --------------------------------- x DECISION AND ORDER On June 27, 1975, New York City Local 246, SEIU, AFL-CIO, filed its petition herein, seeking to add the title of Supervisor of Diesel Engine Maintenance to Certification No. 54-70 (as amended), presently covering a unit of non-supervisory automotive trades and related titles. Although the City's Office of Labor Relations does not oppose this petition, we find that it seeks an inappropriate unit. The one employee in the petitioned title is supervisory, while the approximately 1300 employees covered by Certification No. 54-70 (as amended) are non-supervisory. While there is no statutory bar to such a combination, it is the policy of this Board not to certify-such combined units where, as in the instant case, there are other appropriate units, each containing a full range of related supervisory titles. Accordingly, we shall dismiss this petition.
