Decision Information
Summary: Transcript of accused's recollection of proceedings of bail hearing before Justice of the Peace. Intoxicated accused had been arrested at 2:00 pm and spoke to lawyer who told him to say nothing. At 11:00 pm he was woken up and taken to Justice of the Peace for bail hearing. Denied release. Was not aware he could have lawyer at bail hearing to speak on his behalf. On previous occasions he was released on recognizance, but had been arrested on more serious charges this time. Accused thought he could have gotten bail if he had lawyer to present that he was collecting UIC benefits, had employment prospects, about to take re-fresher seasonal employment courses and had places to reside if released.
