Summary: Accused was convicted of committing a series of sexual assaults over a period of five years on his young granddaughter and seven of her friends - Girls were in his care during the assaults, position of trust - Limited and unrelated record - Pre-trial custody of nine months. Court held the moral culpability of the Accused in these circumstances was substantial and that the sentence must be substantial in order to reflect the harm that child abuse does to society, by destroying our sense of trust.
