Opinion No. 45-4806
October 16, 1945
TO: Mr. Howard K. Ball Administrative Officer State Soil Conservation Committee of New Mexico State College, N. M.
{*145} Replying to your letter of October 9th, requesting an opinion on the following question:
Are motor vehicles owned and operated by the State Soil Conservation Districts eligible to receive license plates from the state at no cost?
{*146} A Soil Conservation District is a Public Body Corporate and Politic of the State of New Mexico and therefore a governmental subdivision of the state; Sec. 48-503 N.M. S. A.
Sec. 68-237 N.M. S. A. "Motor vehicles or trailers owned by and used in the service of the State of New Mexico" are exempt from fees and are entitled to free license plates.
By reason of the foregoing, it is our opinion that a State Soil Conservation District is eligible to receive license plates from the state at no cost.
