This decision provides the Alberta Utilities Commission’s determination of ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd.’s (ATCO Gas) application to recover $5.662 million through a Z factor rate adjustment to compensate it for the costs it incurred as a result of the 2013 Southern Alberta flood. For the reasons set out in this decision, the Commission approved the recovery of Z factor compensation in the amount of $3.121million. Additionally, the Commission determined that ATCO Gas’s depreciation study had contemplated the retirement of assets due to an event similar to the 2013 flood and, therefore, the depreciation expense associated with the assets that were replaced will continue to be recovered from ratepayers.
