A Notice of Appeal was received from Celanese Canada ULC on February 27, 2019 with respect to the January 29, 2019 decision of the Director, Red Deer-North Saskatchewan Region, Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP), to issue EPEA Approval No. 1349-02-04 to Celanese Canada ULC, expiring on January 31, 2020, for the construction, operation and reclamation of the Edmonton petrochemical manufacturing plant.
In a letter dated March 12, 2019, the Appellant requested that the appeal be held in abeyance while the parties worked towards resolving the appeal. On March 18, 2019, the Board granted the request for an abeyance and requested regular status reports from the parties on their discussions. On May 13, 2019, AEP advised they had renewed the Approval.
The Board received a letter from the Appellant on May 24, 2019 advising they would be withdrawing their appeal and confirmed the withdrawal in their June 4, 2019 letter. The Board’s June 5, 2019 confirmed the Appellant was withdrawing their appeal and discontinued its proceedings and closed its file.
